The Editorial Process
Developmental Editing
This is the first step in any editing process including big picture edits and recommendations for:
- Plot
- World-Building
- Character Analysis
- Pacing
Copy/line editing
Polishing prose and fixing grammar, formatting, punctuation, and spelling errors. Suggesting changes to word choice and flow to ensure the prose is clear and maximizing the impact of the plot.
This includes what some refer to as line editing.
- Voice Refinement
- Syntax Polish
- Pacing Consistency
- Clarity
Proofreading
The final phase. A meticulous sweep for punctuation, typos, and formatting errors before publication.
Please note that I do not do proofreading for manuscripts I have not copyedited first.
- Typos & Grammar
- Punctuation Clarity
- House Style Consistency
- Awkward phrasing
The Editorial Path
01
Submission & Inquiry
Once your manuscript is submitted and you've told me a bit about yourself, we start with an assessment of your narrative and goals to assess what your manuscript needs and create a quote.
02
Sample Edit & Consultation
I provide a curated 1,000-2,000 word sample edit to showcase my approach. This phase includes a recommendation for your editing package tailored to your manuscript’s current stage.
03
Deep-Dive Editorial Process
I provide detailed edits using Track Changes, an editorial letter, and margin comments depending on the package.
04
Delivery
You receive your polished manuscript along with a custom style sheet and editorial letter depending on package selected. I answer any lingering questions, ensuring your manuscript is ready for your readers.
